    Good afternoon, I'm new to coaching and need all the resources I could get. When is a good time to start coaching and should be coaching all teachers or just the teachers where you see a need. If there are any webinars in the near future I would love to have an invite to get some insight on how things are done.

    I start coaching within a month of the beginning of the school year.  Some programs make coaching voluntary.  In my program I coach those with whom I see an need.  I certainly wouldn't turn down any volunteers if anyone else really wanted to be coached.    New this year I have started coaching some of the assistant teachers in our program.  The expectation has always been that the lead teacher would work with their assistants but I felt that it wasn't always enough.  There is just too much for them to do and not enough time.  I work for Head Start so we do practice based coaching.  There are a lot of good resources on the Head Start ECLKC.  I also watched a lot of the Teachstone webinars on their YouTube channel.  Best of luck.

    Hi! I am new to coaching as well & my program uses Practice Base Coaching. The Head start- ECLKC website has webinars you can watch for all the information you need to get started with PBC. Also, the ECLKC website has a iPD- Individualized Professional Development page that you can sign up & take a course on Practice Based Coaching (this is a great resource to share with the teachers to promote Professional Development). In my program, I started coaching a month after our program start date. I created a Needs Assessment tool ( I'll attach a example)  and met with the Education Specialist in my program to determine what teachers needed Individualized coaching using that Needs Assessment tool.. I have 5 teacher I individually coach and I send resources to all the  teachers in the program weekly (via email) on different teaching practices... you can find a lot of resource videos on Youtube.. Open-ended questions, scaffolding ...etc. & this website has resources you can share with teachers as well. I have training on different teaching practice via Zoom.

    Hope this information was helpful!

    @Gillian Ramkalawon

    It is my understanding that PBC must have teacher buy-in.  No one can be forced or drafted into being coached.

    In addition to all these great suggestions, I'd recommend this free e-book: Building a Foundation for Effective Coaching

    And I'm not sure if your program is using virtual learning or has any protocols in place that make it trickier for you to go into classrooms to observe and coach, but this upcoming webinar on November 19th may be helpful: How to Coach and Develop Teachers at a Distance - Even If You Don't Have The Coaching Capacity to Do So. If you can't make it live, you can still register and we'll email you a recording afterward.

    And congrats on the new role! Coaches play such an important role.

    Thanks for the input from everyone on coaching. My coaching role is ever changing due to the pandemic. We are doing some classrooms remotely now because of the pandemic. My challenge is currently on having classrooms providing lessons through remind but not on zoom. So it is a challenge to see the teacher in the teaching role. I would love to see how many of you are handling your coaching role in this format since many classrooms are not on zoom. Please share.

    @Tonya Thomas

    Hi! Not sure if this is a good answer to your question but I video record the teachers and also have them to record each other. If I video record them...I usually adhere to the COVID19 policies as I enter the classroom. Then I set up a video camera to record; I upload & share the video with the teacher so we can discuss it or I have the teachers to record each other with assigned classroom tablets and upload the video so we can discuss it.

    Hope this was helpful!
