Calling all CLASS lovers! We need your opinion. We're updating our store and would like to know what type of CLASS items you'd like to see available for purchase.

Would love the option of purchasing the CLASS Dictionary and Strategy Cards for just Pre-K instead of as a set with Infants and Toddlers.

Sheila, how are the dictionary and strategy cards used?  I am not familiar with these.

@Nancy Moses I haven't used them, but saw them in the online store.  They include all 3 age groups, so I'm not likely to purchase them since we only use the Pre-K CLASS.  If they were sold separately I'd be more likely to purchase them.  If you click on the "our store" link in Maggy's message you can check them out.

@Sheila Dandeneau, @Nancy Moses, @Diana (Stanley) Svaleng - Thanks for the great feedback on the CLASS Strategy Cards and Dictionary!

I've attached additional information as well as sample photos for your reference. This bundle comes as participant materials for our CLASS Primer for Teachers training, and is also available for purchase in our store.

Please let us know if you have additional questions or feedback regarding any of these items!

It would be great if they could be purchased separately.  We have a different number of each age level.

The CLASS cards are great!!  We are a childcare center so we had need for both the toddler and preK.  We used them in our training to give teachers an idea of what type of behaviors they can demonstrate to meet the indicators in that dimension.  Teachers like them because it gave them straight forward real life situations they can be applied.  For example, one of the cards told teachers to increase self talk of language modeling by talking out what you are doing during mealtime - "I am going to pour everyone's milk next."

I agree; while the whole set is nice, having the option of just buying the age group that you or your program works with would be great. I only coach programs that have PreK classes and I would love to purchase a few sets to share with the teachers in the various programs that I work with, but it just isn't financially feasible. If the sets were available in different configurations I might be more like to consider doing that.

@Manal Khadem They are not flash cards.  The cards are like little tips sheets for teachers.  Erin attached some photos of the cards in her message above.

I would like to see a sample or samples with items such as the CLASS Dictionary and the CLASS Strategy Cards so that I can better determine if it is what I need.  In reading the description to these items, I was somewhat interested but not sure.  Luckily, the picture showed a partial Strategy Card so I was able to enlarge it and read it and determine that it may be helpful as I coach teachers in CLASS.  The description of the CLASS Dictionary doesn't give me enough information for me to know if it will be helpful for me.  So currently I do not know if I want to purchase the Strategy Cards by themselves or in the bundle with the Dictionary.

I supervise a team of coaches that are working with classroom teachers and family child care providers.  Most of the coaches have a variety of infant, toddler and preschool classrooms on their caseloads.  Some even have a family child care provider.  I purchased a dictionary and a set of strategy cards to see what they were like.  When I showed them to the coaches they were excited about the dictionary option.  Many of the coaches appreciated the layout of the dictionary as it is easier to read than the Dimension Guides.  The dictionary is has smaller chunks of information that can be quickly read.  We decided to buy the dictionary for classrooms so they could have this resource available within their classroom.  Coaches are then able to reference the dictionary during a visit and the coach and teacher can discuss different aspects of the CLASS tool.  While the teachers are in an infant, toddler or preschool room we found that this could be a valuable resource for the teacher.

The strategy cards were not as big of a hit for our team however, we discussed different options in using them and ordered a few sets of the strategy cards.  Some of the coaches saw this as an opportunity to help teachers consider strategies in which they might implement different "skills" during the day with the children.  For example, looking at ways to increase language modeling during meal times.  We also offer professional development to child care providers and we plan to use the strategy cards as a way to incorporate activities into the training.  They can be an easy way to get conversations started on topics around the CLASS.

Hopefully these thoughts help you decide if either of these reseources might fit with your program.

I would LOVE to be able to purchase just the tri-fold card that has all the face pages on it (it comes inside the manual).  I've found that this is a great resource to keep in classrooms as it is laminated and can be written on with dry erase or wet erase marker for quick feedback, scoring, and reference.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what else would be helpful as I mostly use the store for recertification purchases only.

I would like to see a more affordable yearly unlimited calibration option.   I just did the one time calibration yesterday and felt like $80 for 1 video was a lot.  In a few months I would like to be able to do another calibration without having to pay $80 again.  Even if we could purchase a punch card type deal where you get 10 videos for 1 price (Less than $80/video) to use when you want.

@Gillian Ramkalawon Thanks for the feedback! I've passed this along to others on our team. The calibrations are a great tool and we certainly want to encourage others to calibrate as well.

I totally agree with Gillian. I would like to hone my skills throughout the year to ensure that I am calibrated. I also think it would ease the stress of the annual recertification. There are usually two times of year when I'm doing the assessment so being able to re-calibrate in between would be most helpful.
