Edutopia recently shared a research study showing the lasting benefits of simply greeting your students as they come in the door. The power of taking a moment to greet each student and connect showed to significantly decrease behavioral problems and increase academic learning. This isn't a teacher greeting, but this kindergartener greeting his friends is just too sweet. 

How do you greet your students? What routine do you have to start the day?

Saw this clip a while back and just fell in love.  What a wonderful addition to classroom jobs!  If I had a classroom of my own you can be sure I would be doing this with my kiddos!

It is very rewarding to be able to see our children, smile and use different tools to make them feel good from the moment they arrive at daycare so that they can enjoy their day in the best way possible by learning and sharing with other children.

I'm fairly new at running a small home daycare.  it will be 1 year next month.  

Just like greeting anyone at our door, I've been greeting our daycare children.  We have established a morning greeting routine for each child.  I knew it to be personable, but didn't imagine the life long benefits from it.  

I'm looking forward to researching additional ways to have things already prepared for individual child engagement.  It would be a good way to keep the children busy while they wait for the others to all arrive and we begin our day.

Every morning we greet our children and parents in the morning as they walk through the door. There is usually one teacher at the door that's greeting them and then I am usually on the other side of the classroom and I also greet them from the other side. We greet each child by name and the excitement of hearing a "Good Morning" makes them so excited and they have a big smile on their face. Also the parents get excited because we acknowledge them too and we always tell them have a nice day at the end. I think this is a great thing because it shows that we care as teachers about both child and who ever is dropping off. It also shows how welcoming our classroom is and it does make a difference on behaviors. We are also building a relationship with both child and parent.

Way to go!  You hit it right where it matters.  A warm greeting says so much.  Families know you are pleased to see them and you are concerned about your children.  The warm morning greeting assures your children that teacher will make the separation from family member easier as children know they are moving from the warmth of family embrace to the warmth of the classroom teacher and classroom.  Good job.
