    Hello CLASS Learning Community Members,

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far! As we enter into the new school year, I would love to know, How are you prioritizing social-emotional learning (SEL) and well-being this school year?

Please chime in below with what your role is, and how you are taking care of yourself and those who rely on you. Keep in mind that this prioritization can look different depending on your role, whether you're a parent, teacher, supervisor, coach, etc. What advice would you give to others who aren't sure where to start?

I can't wait to engage around this topic and learn from one another!

    Best,
    Allison

What a thoughtful, and important prompt. Thanks for getting the discussion started, Allison. For me, I'm trying to find at least 5 minutes a day to have for myself, doing whatever it is I feel like at the time. It may sitting outside and getting fresh air, going for a quick walk, reading a chapter in a book, or if I find I have more than 5 minutes I'll get in a workout. The days are long, the stress is high, and I find taking this time for myself and listening to what my body and mind wants and needs in that moment really helps me to stay grounded.

It is so important to take care of your own emotional well-being. Being a teacher is a really had job right now. There is so much uncertainty in the midst of the pandemic and just life. I find that using some of the calming strategies that we use in the classroom in my everyday life has helped me to deal with my emotions and difficult times in my personal life as well as my dealings in the classroom.

I feel like that is a big question, but it got me thinking of individual interactions.  Sometimes individuals just want to be heard.  Taking the time to listen matters so much.  Every organization is big, but the people that make it work have so much value.  I am amazed when someone reminds me to breathe.  Just that reminder is enough to make me slow down.  COVID has broken down barriers with emotions.  I am thankful for venues like this with like-minded individuals.  Thank you to every individual that has taken the time to respond.  Have an encouraging and productive day!

Our agency has a subscription to Headspace, an app that guides, promotes, teaches meditation and mindfulness.  We are encouraged to use it and it is a part of our staff trainings.
