Hi!
In my experience the best way to start potty Training is to give the child plenty to drink. Something they really like that's healthy for them. For example; milk or juice. Then sit the child on the potty (the best potty for Beginners is the kind that plays music the moment the child goes). You'll want to give the child a toy, or read them a book or let them watch a favorite cartoon while you wait for them to go. It can take 20 minutes or so for the child to go potty in the toilet for the first time. As soon as the child goes (the music will play, if that's kind of potty chair you purchased), praise the child immediately. Tell them good job going potty in the toilet! Make it a big deal.
After the very first time the child goes in the toilet, they get the idea and know what is expected of them & will start to go within a couple of minutes after you sit them on the potty. Pretty soon they are going right away. At first, put them on the potty every hour to go. If they go in their training pants before that hour, you should put them on sooner. Like every 40 minutes.
I find that both boys and girls are the same to potty train.
good luck!
