    Hello my fellow students! I just loved loved the module for diaper and toileting. I took from the resources that were given to use parallel talk, extension of language, as well as support for children's language. I learned that communicating with the child by letting the child know what is going to happen throughout the process of diaper changing/toileting really helps the child remain at ease, and less distressed. If you could give me some examples of how you kept your child calm, engaged, and where you felt the child either gained your trust in comfort or even the opposite to where the child was distressed what actions did you take.     I am in a class with 13-24 months. We have cabinets right next to our diaper changing station and we encourage each parent to bring in a family photo. We made a little "family tree" of all our kiddos photos so that while they're laying and getting their diapers changed, they can look at pictures of mom and dad or siblings. We even have some family pets on our tree! It gives them some comfort and also helps them learn each other's names ��

    Former infant teacher here! One key point is make sure you let the child know you are about to change their diaper before picking them up and taking them to the changing table. Something like, "Suzy, it's diaper time. Let's go get changed!". This let's them know what you are about to do and might prevent an upset from just grabbing them from playing and taking them over. We had mirrors on the wall by the changing table so the child could look at themselves. They loved that. I also used a lot of songs during diaper changes. Songs help calm the child and keep them engaged with you. I would use the I Love You rituals from Conscious Discipline as well. If a child is really upset, sometimes just talking to them, singing to them, and engaging with them even for just a few seconds before starting the diaper change works wonders!
