  • 1.  Fall CLASS Observation times

    Hello All,

    Our HS program starts back in August, we typically do Fall CLASS observations in Oct/ Nov, my position is that this is too late, I would like to start CLASS observations after 4 weeks of being in session. My question is, when do most HS programs around start their Fall CLASS Observations? I would love to hear from other's Thanks.

    Hello Ivonne,

    I agree; my HS program starts in Oct/Nov as well. I would love to begin the second week in September. Our ED manager has not given us any updates yet. Best of luck this school year!!

    Hello,
    I am the Education Director of a Head Start program in New York City, and we typically do CLASS observations October/November and again April/May.  In my experience in a Head Start this is a typical timeline to start CLASS as this time allows for the teachers to have some understanding of their children and learning more about what supports are needed in the classroom.  We do it twice as Oct/Nov gives us a baseline and throughout the year provide workshops and coaching to our staff.  We do another observation in April/May to see if our action steps from Oct/Nov were beneficial and what more needs to be done.

    We are a Head Start program in Washington State. We typically give them a month with the kids in session, before conducting observations.  That gives them time to do their screenings, get children on a routine, start late enrollees, etc. Our kids start in September, so we try to do observations in Oct/Nov.

    Thank you so much for your reply, I am seeing a pattern now and also have gained more knowledge as a CLASS coach.  My rush comes from being a long time Kindergarten teacher, and sometimes forget Head Start is a different program. Thanks again,
