Today, we launched our final
Teaching with CLASS Podcast episode of this season, The Mid-School-Year Reset. In this episode, we quickly cover where we've been this season but also look ahead with you as we approach the new calendar year.
Let's reflect and look ahead.
- What is one goal you made this school year that you still want to accomplish? Try writing it down, telling a colleague about it, and displaying it somewhere you will see it daily. And most importantly, when you accomplish it, CELEBRATE!
- Make a "woulda coulda shoulda" journal. Record your ideas and insights daily, especially during one-off events such as picture day. This way, you can look back and remember what you wanted to do differently next time.
- Re-establish your classroom community when you return after the break. We all know that even a long weekend can disrupt a child's routine, and not all households are places of joy and peace during the holidays. Many children are excited to return to school, see friends, and return to their routines. Some children will face similar separation challenges as they had in the fall. Include time to reconnect, catch up, and remind everyone about the rules, routines, and expectations. Relationships are the foundation of an effective classroom.
- Burnout is real. Take care of yourself. Your job is so important, and so many people need you. If you have started a self-care routine and it's going well, maybe support a struggling colleague.
