Maybe a bean bag chair that he can lift, shift, and move. You stated he has a smaller item but that doesn't seem to meet his need. A larger item that is soft and cannot cause harm may be an alternate solution. Best of luck :) ------------------------------ Christina Roseli Camarillo CA ----- ...

I guess the real question is what can't you do?!?! When you are outside you are not limited by less messy activities. I recommend sensory play - get some sensory bins and go crazy. Cornstarch and water, dirt and bugs, water and buckets....the list can go on and on. Happy exploring! -------- ...

Talk, read, sing! This is the basis for all language development! It's simple and efficient. Engage those littles in conversation....ask questions even if they don't answer....they will :) READ! Practice dialogic reading (pausing and discussing what you see, ask questions, predict what will happen ...

Here are some things to consider. Learning should be hands-on and active. It is not something you sit and do. Explore numbers, letters, colors, etc as children manipulate objects and discover their world. Active Learning. Active learning means that the learner plays an active "minds-on" role ...

Simply that you are asking the questions shows that you are on the right track....you care about the children in your class and meeting their needs. Children who have experienced trauma need safe, stable, caring adults in their lives. Your classroom can be a place of refuge and their safe space to be ...

@Kathy Void I completely agree! All behavior is communication. @Deanna Dukes, you have successfully identified the "why" behind the behavior - for attention. But now its time to go a bit deeper and locate the root. Children do not have the adequate words or tools to process stress or chaos in their ...

This is an extremely sensitive topic for all parties involved - especially parents who only want the best for their child. "I think" sentences should never come from a teachers mouth when referring to a possible delay. I'm wondering if your program uses any research-based observation tools or developmental ...

It's a fun quiz but there is no explanation for why an answer is right or wrong (Quality of Feedback). I would include a simple explanation for each one in future quizzes. ------------------------------ Christina Roseli Camarillo CA ------------------------------

@Liz Savage - While I think these videos are helpful, I still think they are geared towards a new coach or observer. I've been seeking a good resource to introduce the basics of CLASS to new teachers. How observations happen and the rating system is irrelevant and confusing to them at the beginning. ...

I love the feedback you have received so far. CD promotes depth of learning, engaging conversations and explorations. Every classroom has a different style of teaching and classroom implementation. As I read the phrase - "forced rotation", I would encourage you to pause and reflect before you interact ...

I'm not sure what age your kiddos are but there are so many creative ways to do art! -do a tearing collage activity. I remove all the scissors. The only tool the kids can use is their hands. This is a great activity to build up those muscles in their little hands -pass drawing (older kids only) - this ...

It's been two months since you posted this. My hope is you have received additional support from your Director/Supervisor. I was in your exact position; I applied and was hired for a preschool position and was placed in the 1-year old room. While I was not happy and extremely hesitant, I did learn ...

We had a signal, a bell, and a song. When the kids heard the bell chiming and the song being sung they knew it was time to transition. It didn't happen over night but they learned the routine and very little prodding had to be done. "Bells are ringing, bells are ringing, hear them chime, hear them ...

Use what surrounds you....nature is full of sensory materials! Leaves, grass, bark, rocks and pebbles, and my favorite...MUD! I've also used colored rice, beans, cooked spaghetti - all these can be purchased at a dollar store or parents can donate. You don't have to spend money to experience sensory ...

I would include the infant in meal time with the other children. Meal times are a great time to have conversation, build relationship and work on social skills. The infant can only benefit from being included and observing the interactions of the older children. When it is bottle time for the younger ...

Earlier this month I presented at a Head Start Conference: "Remembering the Joy" . The focus was on being silly, having fun and remembering the joy of working with young children. Laughter boosts happy chemicals in the brain - I'd say we ALL need more happy chemicals right now! Here is a great video ...
