I find that infant/toddler teachers, because of the nature of their work and the age of their children, are great at this. To encourage and increase this type of interaction for infant/toddler teachers as well as preschool teachers, I discuss the correlation between self and parallel talk and dual language development. I remind teachers that, "language acquisition of any kind is more so related to the quantity and quality of experience with the language. It is not always easy to think of a great extension question in the moment, but you can always describe what you or the children doing."

Subject: Self and Parallel Talk
We recently had discussions about how important back and forth conversations are after reading this recent MIT study. However, that doesn't mean parallel and self-talk lose importance. Do you have any other tips for remembering to use or encouraging others to use self and parallel talk?
