Hi Britney,
In addition to the great strategies that Christina shared, I also find it helpful to revisit what's developmentally appropriate for the skills you're looking to help them learn and retain. For example, for the ABCs, research supports that most children are "primed" to learn the entire alphabet in kindergarten. That doesn't mean that preschoolers can't or won't learn the ABCs, but it's a helpful reminder when setting expectations. And, when learning the alphabet, children do best learning the letters of their own name first! So, start small! If a child doesn't know any letters, consider introducing just the first letter of his/her name. And, use some of the strategies Christina shared to "learn" that letter. Have them build the letter out of play dough, have them search the room for that letter, have them "find" the letter buried in the sand, etc.
Hope this helps!
Emily

Subject: What is the best way to teach Preschoolers
Good Afternoon,
I need some assistance with helping my preschoolers learn. I understand that every child learns differently and being repetitive also helps. It just seems as if they aren't retaining the information. For example, ABC's, 123's and name recognition. I also would like to get my parents on board with helping the children at home. As we all know, we can only do so much, parents also have to do their part. So any advice is greatly appreciated!!
