I need activities or ideals to help with my students in letter/name recognization

Something I did on my preschool class is have all the kids sitting for circle time on the border of the rug and putting all their names on cards with the first letter capitalized in a different color then the rest of the letters in there name. I spread all the children's names out in the middle of the rug and call each child, one by one, to find there name. If the can't find it, another child helps them. I say ( when the are correct) " this is ( child's name)." The class repeats. I say " ( child's name) start with uppercase _____"  

I can usually get about 10 kids names done but when they get restless I do something active for a few minutes and then we continue to come back to it another time.

Hi Margie! One thing I did was I put their names on a chair. They did not have assigned seats, they could sit wherever but they had to make sure they got their own chair. We would guide them by going over the letter their name started with. After we would encourage them to find chairs with names that started with that letter. Then we'd go over the sounds and the other letters in their names. 

At circle time we'd hold up a name card and go over who is here that day. They enjoyed saying the names and that really helped. We also pointed out the letter they started with and how many friends started with that letter. 

Good Morning Margie, in our preschool we use letter links for the first initial of the child's first name. Then we have the children use magnetic name tags to move their names from home to school. The children can trace thier names using online apps that will print them out for you. Using Sand in a box with the letter..

Yes, using the stickers is another activity to extend it with is asking them the letter sound it makes or who in our class room has that letter in their name. 

What have I done that the children love is I write their name on a sentence strip twice. Laminate both. I cut the letters with the second one. Mix the individual letters and have the students match them to the printed name. When they are comfortable with this. I gather all the individual letters of a small group of children and hold them up one at a time. If the student can name the letter they get it to put it on their name puzzle. If they need help in naming the letter, I tell them what it is, have them repeat it, then put the letter behind the next letter to be named so they only have one letter wait time for their letter to come back up. When the children finish their puzzle, they spell out their name out loud.
