I'm interested in following this thread, since this is a question so many of us have, and it seems that so many of our attempts don't get the job done.  Just for some insight to my perspective, I teach 6th grade in a public school, and this is a constant battle.  We provide weekly newsletters home, access to an app through which we share information, etc.  None of those seem to work, at this age, in terms of parent communication.  Something our elementary school does each year is Family Reading Night.  It's usually a pretty big turnout.  They have free food and lots of reading-related family activities that go with whatever the theme is.  A couple of years ago, we had a camping theme, and the meal was hotdogs and chips.  One of the activities was reading with a flashlight.  They were invited to come in their pajamas and bring blankets to have a little "campout" in one of the larger rooms in the building.  They usually have some kind of photobooth or craft, like making bookmarks or something.  They also have drawings for gift cards, books, and other items or gift baskets donated by local businesses.  Some schools do such things for math as well, or they host STEM nights.
