Development milestone is a certain stage and action children are supposed to be doing independently at each age. Physical, cognitive, language, social and emotional are developments, grouped in milestones. Understanding these help child care workers observe what behaviors and skills are expected at different ages and help recognize which child may need more help.
As a teacher it is important to know that every child develops at their own pace. Milestones provide guidelines or like a check list, not all children will reach their milestone at the exact same time. Observing children helps support each child individual needs & strengths.
Children needs opportunities to explore, play, communicate, and build a close relationship with others and their teachers. As a teacher I want to provide encouraging activities and independence that support development in all areas and help build confidence with children
Learning about milestone also helps teachers communicate better with families about their child's development. Children needs support at home and school it takes a team
