    I recently re-certified in both infant and toddler. Will we need to get certified with CLASS 2nd edition  in Aug. to still observe next school year?

    Hi Mary, ​since you've recently re-certified in both Infant and Toddler CLASS using the 2008 edition, you can continue conducting observations using that tool for the upcoming 2025–2026 school year. Teachstone is supporting a transition period, allowing programs time to prepare for the switch to CLASS 2nd Edition.

    I have been on the fence to recertify my Pre-K Trainer.  Any thoughts on that?

    The original CLASS tools served programs for over 15 years. But learning settings-and educators-have evolved. The 2nd Edition Pre-K-3rd tool reflects current research, field feedback, and the need for greater cohesion across early childhood age groups.

    Some key feature differences:
    • The manual in CLASS 2nd Edition has updated language that emphasizes the uniqueness of each child and guidance to consider the individual child's response across interactions. Within the manual, specific additions, removals, and language adjustments to behavioral markers were made to address varied contexts and settings.
    • CLASS 2nd Edition formalizes the scoring at the indicator level, which pinpoints more specific behaviors that drive the effectiveness of interactions
    • Across the manual and Observer product lines, guidance and specific instruction are provided to enhance the consistency and fairness of CLASS observations and implementations.
    • With combined age-level tools and streamlined content, 2nd Edition provides tailored support to drive the implementation and use of CLASS within a continuous improvement system.
