Introducing the CLASS® 2nd Edition Crosswalk!

Are you transitioning to CLASS 2nd Edition? We've created a comprehensive crosswalk to help you bridge your existing CLASS knowledge with the updated 2nd Edition tools.

What's Inside: This crosswalk gives a high-level overview of key updates across Infant-Toddler and Pre-K–3rd grade tools, including:
Updated dimension definitions that better capture teacher–child interactions across all settings
Enhanced indicator definitions for clearer scoring
Refined behavioral markers grounded in current child development research
Inclusive language supporting diverse learners and program types
Improved clarity and usability throughout the tools

Why This Matters: CLASS 2nd Edition builds on the same trusted framework you know. By consolidating age-level tools and refining language, we've made CLASS more accessible while keeping the core structure that makes it the most researched and validated observational system in the field.

Good News: You can build on your existing CLASS investments! The foundational concepts remain unchanged, ensuring reliable observations from birth through 3rd grade-now with enhanced guidance.

Thanks Angela! Since meals/ snacks are no longer listed as an activity setting item, would this be recorded as a routine/ transition? What content area is most appropriate when documenting transitions or meals? I would often note language arts but that is no no longer an option so I would love any guidance on these particular routines.

    Thank you!
