A common question we hear is how to show high Teacher Sensitivity when you have a large classroom or a handful of more challenging students.  Listen as @Becky Danisand @Mary-Margaret K Gardiner share tips for being aware and responsive to your students' concerns. Listen now!

I love Becky's tip- "When you genuinely meet one child's need, other kids watch. And what they learn from that is how to take care of other people. They learn compassion and empathy. And they learn that, as an adult, I'm going to help."

Thank you for sharing! I really enjoyed that discussion.

The one part that really stuck out to me was when they were talking about telling the children "you're okay" or "it's okay" and rather telling them "you'll BE okay." I feel like that's a better response to them crying. We are so quick to just tell them "you're okay" but we should be reassuring them instead. We should reassure them that it's okay to feel what they're feeling (sad, mad, tired, hungry, etc) but they'll be okay in the end.

Want to raise successful kids? Stop telling them 'everything will be OK'-do these 5 things instead.

I would love more discussion about coding high, low and mid ranges with clarity of learning objectives. Scenarios would be good too.☺️

@Helen Watkins, sorry I missed this comment. We haven't done a podcast on Instructional Learning Formats yet, so perhaps it's time! I think there are some common questions around it. In the meantime, this blog post may address some of your questions about observing clarity of learning objectives and shared what it looks like in high and mid-range. Getting Clear on Clarity of Learning Objectives

Getting Clear on Clarity of Learning Objectives
When conducting a CLASS training, there are always a few dimensions I know participants are probably going to struggle with more than others. For instance, Concept Development is going to be tricky for some, followed closely by Quality of Feedback. Usually though, as we progress through training, these dimensions become more clear.

I enjoyed this podcast very much.   The portion that stuck with me the most was when we tell a child it's Okay or you are okay.  I wasn't aware that by doing that I am giving the child  mixed feelings about what Okay looks like. I never looked at it that way. I am excited today to go to my classroom and see how I can improve my sensitivity to my kids need. I will be scanning my classroom and actively engage in meeting the needs of my students more So that they can feel safe and apart of a community.

I love how the podcast talked about how to include the few children that have trouble staying still and usually the children would mention a random event that happened to them which initially lets the teacher know that this child is having a difficult time grasping the activity or concept being taught. Teacher sensitivity is important in order for us too be aware of whats going on with the children and how we can adjust certain techniques in order for the kids to have a fun and knowledgable experience. This happens often, it's great to know what we can do to provide the children a feeling of connection.
