    I am completing a performance plan for a teacher using the CLASS tool. We are wanting to measure growth in Quality of Feedback. I have that the teacher will track student progress to ensure she knows what skills the students know/don't know. Are there any other ideas on how I can track the teachers progress specifically in the area of Quality of Feedback? Thank you

    1. Track Use of Prompting Techniques

    Have the teacher keep a simple log or reflection sheet on how often they use:

    • Scaffolding

    • Hints/Clues

    • Prompts that extend thinking

    • Back-and-forth exchanges

    This helps monitor intentional use of QF strategies over time.

    2. Collect Short Video Clips

    Have the teacher record brief (5–10 minute) clips of instruction.
    You can review them together and note:

    • Frequency of feedback loops

    • Depth of follow-up questions

    • How often students are encouraged to explain their thinking

    This provides concrete evidence of growth.

    3. Use a QF Strategy Checklist

    Create a simple checklist aligned to the exemplar behaviors (e.g., providing specific feedback, building on responses, expanding thinking).
    Teacher or coach can complete it weekly to show increasing use of targeted behaviors.

    4. Student Work Samples With Teacher Feedback

    Collect examples of written or verbal feedback the teacher gives on work samples.
    Look for:

    • Specificity

    • Whether feedback helps students correct, extend, or deepen understanding

    • Whether it leads to student thinking or problem-solving

    5. Coaching or Classroom Observation Notes

    Conduct brief walkthroughs or focused observations (no scoring needed).
    Document examples of:

    • Feedback loops

    • Scaffolding moments

    • How the teacher responds when students struggle

    Comparing notes month-to-month can show growth clearly.
