    Hi @Andrea Turner,

Welcome to the CLASS Learning Community, and to Teachstone! Are you interested in learning more about CLASS as an educator, accessing resources, or taking a training or a course? Or something else?

This space is a wonderful place to ask questions of other educators and CLASS experts, as well as to share and find resources! If you're looking for a specific course or training, I can usually help to point you in the correct direction. I look forward to hearing from you!

    Best,
    Allison

I'm as confused as you, Andrea. I have two master's degrees, and I admit I'm lost too. I am on the autism spectrum and need someone to explain to me in plain language what CLASS is and why we are using it. Does it have anything to do with the new Rennaissance assessments we are doing?  Is there a specific course I must take? If so, what is the name of the course?

    Hi @Irene Teesdale,

Thank you so much for reaching out! I can absolutely help with what CLASS is, it is an assessment tool that measures classroom interactions. Through knowledge gained through CLASS, we can learn a common language to discuss these interactions and learn more about how to make each interaction meaningful and impactful. Programs utilizing CLASS may be at different stages of implementing CLASS, so maybe educators have begun learning about CLASS because they will be observed this year for example.

Here are some examples from our website as well!
    • Focus on high-quality interactions and create a shared understanding of quality in your program
    • Measure the quality of interactions to create a system that enables data-driven improvement
    • Improve teaching quality through tailored and individualized professional development

Here is a webinar about CLASS and how to get started, and you can view a 1-minute video about CLASS at the bottom of this webpage!

While I don't know anything about the Rennaissance assessments you might be doing or if there is a certain course that your organization would like you to take, I absolutely recommend checking in with your supervisor to see! We have a lot of free resources here in the CLASS Learning Community that you can access and learn on your own if you're interested! CLASS is not just a measurement tool, but for me, it has been a really impactful thing to learn about to help me build connections and relationships. I really hope this helps a little bit, and please don't hesitate to reach out with more questions!

    Best,
    Allison
