Hi @Janine Savage
It's super tricky to say for sure without being present for the observation, but I would recommend considering the depth, duration, and frequency of these behaviors, You saying that there were 2 instances of self-talk makes me think that frequency is pretty low, but I don't know the duration of those interactions, or the depth. The other thing to remember is that the behavioral markers aren't a checklist, so you don't necessarily need to see these things in order for the provider to score highly. I would look at the definition of the dimension and then consider the depth, duration, and frequency of the dimension as a whole. I am hopeful this is somewhat helpful!
Best,
Allison

Subject: Scoring CLASS
Can someone please give me some guidance on how to score language modeling when all indicators were high except self and parallel talk. They had 2 instances of self-talk and no parallel talk. The group was highly involved in a discussion during large group reading a story, discussing pictures, experiences etc. During this time, it is difficult for teachers to use parallel talk when the children's engagement was verbal discussion only.
