Seeking Advice: How to conduct observation cycles in a fluid indoor/outdoor "open door" setting?

    Hello CLASS Community,

I'm preparing for an assessment next month and would love some insight on how to handle a specific classroom routine.

The classroom has 20 children enrolled (with >50% present daily). Their routine is very fluid; they have an "open door" policy where children can choose to be inside or outside for the majority of the day. There is only one 30-minute window for a whole-group session before the door opens again for indoor/outdoor choice.

During these choice times, the children often split into small groups of 5 to 8, each led by a different teacher.

My question is: In this setting, is it acceptable to observe one small group/teacher for a full cycle, and then-if that group moves outside-switch to observe a second small group with a different teacher for the next cycle?

I want to make sure I'm capturing the teacher-child interactions correctly while following the observation protocols for such a fluid environment. Has anyone else encountered this "open door" setup, and how did you structure your cycles?

    Thank you for your help!
