    What do y'all think about the observation test for pre-K I passed it and I'm still a little confused with concept development

    Congratulations on passing!  That's awesome!  I think this test is incredibly difficult and needs to be revamped.  The videos are old and some aren't as relevant anymore.  I think certification should be valid for 3 years. This once a year taking this test is stressful, incredibly time consuming and is a money maker for Teachstone.

    I recently was recertified, and even though I passed I still would have liked more feedback on the items I missed. Did I score too high or too low? How can I improve when I don't know what my mistakes are? Furthermore, if I had failed on my first or second attempt, having to do five or ten more videos does not seem like best practice. In fact, it ups the stress level and makes it more likely for failure. In order to recertify if you fail three attempts, you have to retake the training, which doesn't come cheap (plus you've lost the cost of the certification)

    Teachstone has always been about the money. 15 years ago, when I first heard about CLASS I called them to get more information. I asked if I could see some sample criteria or a sample protocol. They wouldn't give me anything and told me I had to purchase the manual for any information. At that time I decided against pursuing using the instrument. Once I started working in Head Start I had no choice but to pursue certification and using it.

    Their current policies around certification continue to reflect this. Yearly certification does not come cheap. Head Start, which I'm guessing is a major customer for Teachstone, is currently at level funding, without consideration for most of us our costs increasing.

    I am loving the CLASS tool !! I am an observer for both Prek-3rd and Infant /Toddler. I am also a trainer in both. I do want to say.... the reliability test was the most stressful test I have ever encountered. I am dreading the month of July because I have the 4 test to complete for recertification. I saw where another had stated that they feel the same and with them I totally agree with the every 3 year recertifying. I have some individuals that I trained that are not wanting to recertify because they are dreading and are stressed over the ever year recertifying. I hate to loose them but I have no control of that. It only seems fair to have this recertifying test every 3 years AT LEAST. I was also wondering how often does the calibration test need completed? That is another test ... that I question. I have completed that one time and wondered how often it will we required??? I just wanted to throw my thoughts out there in case there might be others with the same concerns. I do love the CLASS tool and what it will be beneficial to children in classrooms in Arkansas.

    Yes, recertifying every year is soo stressful and I also wish it was good for 3 years! I too would welcome more feedback when scoring the observations.
