CLASS observations can be either announced or unannounced, depending on the program or agency’s policies.

Announced observations are scheduled ahead of time, allowing teachers to know the date and time of the visit.

Unannounced observations occur without prior notice, giving a more natural view of everyday classroom interactions.
The decision on whether an observation is announced or unannounced is typically made by your program, district, or the organization requesting the CLASS assessment. If you’re unsure about your specific situation, we recommend contacting your program coordinator or CLASS administrator for guidance.
