Good morning,

I have done my first 2 attempts and not passed. The section I have having a hard time with is Instructional Support. I have scored high on the other 2 domains. My last attempt is due Saturday and I am super stressed. I have a Zoom call scheduled for Friday with someone from Teachstone but need helpful hints now.

Anyone have any hints or resources that helped them?

Hi @Sarah White,

I am so glad that you have a call scheduled with Teachstone for this week, and you can always inquire about an extension as well if you need more time! One other place that has some resources that might help you is the reliability support page on our website.

Instructional Support is definitely tricky sometimes. Here are some tips that help me:
  • Re-reading the pages in the manual on these dimensions so I can try to get a really clear picture of what high, mid, and low looks like for each dimension
  • Look at the dimension description and try to think of the dimension based on the description. I underline key words and try to get a full picture view.
  • Check out the videos in the video library to see what high-range interactions look like
  • Pay attention to the depth, frequency, and duration. Just because I saw the behavior and wrote notes doesn't mean it was often or consistent, so I have to remind myself of that.
  • And most of all, I just try to breathe and trust my gut. I find that I overcomplicate things when I recertify, so just trying to trust in what I really saw helps me so much.
I really hope these tips and resources help you!

Best,
Allison

Sarah, I'm with you!!  I've never passed on the first try, and this is my 4th go-around.  One coach friend reassured me the other day, she said, "I never plan to pass on the first try.  I think of it as getting a baseline where I'm at."
I sometimes get caught up in "if they're really cheerful and nice, they MUST be good teachers!" (and score IS too high) and I have to slow down and really concentrate on each indicator as an individual thing.
Breathe, listen to the Teachstone advice on Friday, slow down, and trust your gut, without overthinking...
I'm going to try that same advice today.
Good luck!

@Sarah White - I struggle with the same section. What has helped me is scoring each behavioral marker as High, Medium Low and double checking my thoughts by rereading the mid range in the book.  Then to be safe I score on the lower side when I am going back and forth between to numbers.

Sarah, just wanted to let you know: I PASSED!!!
Again, take each video as a separate thing.  Think ONLY about the dimension in front of you, when scoring (just because she's cheerful  doesn't mean she's good at IS, and the same with crabby - could still be good in other areas).
Best of luck to you!
