When observing a classroom and determining if it is High or Mid what is the percentage or number of times you should see or hear something happening to determine frequent versus sometimes?

Great question! 👏

CLASS doesn’t define “frequent” by an exact percentage or number — it’s about patterns you see across the 20-minute cycle.

  • High range (6–7): Behaviors happen consistently and throughout most of the cycle.

  • Mid range (3–5): Behaviors happen sometimes or inconsistently.

  • Low range (1–2): Behaviors are rare or absent.

A good rule of thumb: if it’s seen in most segments (around 70–80%), it’s “frequent”; if it’s less than half the time, it’s “sometimes.”
