I'm excited to share that we recently made a change that gives all our CLASS users access to the CLASS Learning Community, which means we have many new members! If you're new, we're so happy to have you here! You can ask questions, share ideas, find resources, and connect with other educators interested in improving classroom interactions.

We'd love for you to comment and share any or all of the following:
    1. Where you're from
    2. What your role is
    3. One question or struggle you're having that you could use some help with from the Community

If you're wondering what to do next, I recommend browsing the resources, checking out previous discussions, or setting up your profile. Let us know how else we can help!

Hello - I'm Barbara and will be observing classrooms as part of my role as an ECCP consultant. I'm currently trying to pass my reliability testing and finding that challenging. I initially scored too low, then too high. Any suggestions from veteran CLASS observers would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Barbara Chatterton, so glad to have you here! There are a number of great tips, videos, and resources on certifying on this page: https://teachstone.com/reliability-support/ that I recommend before your third attempt. In addition, if you reach out to Customer Support (contact@teachstone.com) before you begin your third attempt, they can match you with a CLASS Specialist here at Teachstone that can look at your previous scores and help talk through them with you before trying your final attempt.

    Hello Barbara,
Passing the reliability test can be challenging; however, do not be discouraged. Take advantage of the full resources offered by Teachstone including reaching out to your trainer or reliability/support for feedback.  Part of successfully becoming reliable is to take detailed behavioral notes in all of the dimensions. Pace yourself. Refer back to your training materials, participant guide, the training videos for the scoring process, and your CLASS manual. These are just some of the helpful resources you should have access to as you prepare to become reliable.  I wish you the best.  HAPPY SCORING

Hello I am Cathy Bryant, Specialist at Laney College Children Center, Oakland. I have been teaching for 20 plus years in the field of ECE. My passion is to teach other teachers and parents, the students is a bonus (smile). I am passionate about this work of educating our families and children and as well as supporting our teachers coming into and currently in the field. I believe that our children is the most important investment we can ever make to our society. Their is not enough money that can pay for the work we do, but it is nice to have recognition and compensation for the time spent investing in our children.

Hi! I'm Ruth! I have been teaching early childhood since 1981 in northern Illinois... teaching EC spec ed, ESL, and at-risk children. This past year was my final year. I figured 40 years was enough... BUT, I know I will miss the children. I was certified as a CLASS preschool observer a few years ago but let it lapse since my district was not interested in using it at that time. Now that I am a retired free agent, I am looking into re-doing it so I can combine my classroom experience with my CLASS training to help out other classrooms in other districts, hopefully. I consider myself a developmentalist who puts relationships first.

Hi, Y'all! My name is Shelby Gordon. This is my first time being CLASS certified in Infant and Toddler. I am originally from San Diego, CA but living and LOVING Austin, Texas. I am an Early Head Start Mentor Coach for Child Inc. in Austin and I help the EHS teachers with professional development, child assessments and their in-classroom education on lesson plans, activities and things of that sort. I think one thing I struggle with is making sure that I am scoring as close as possible to the reliablity score and understanding the difference between one score and the score next to it. Nice to meet you all, I look forward to hearing your input.

    Hi everyone! ☺️👋🏻

My name is Brandi and I am SO excited to be here! I am originally from Colorado, born and raised, but last year I decided I needed a change and up and moved to Illinois and have been loving it! I work at a private preschool called the Goddard School as an assistant teacher, but I am here to get my CDA so I can become a lead teacher. I love what I do, I love working with kids, and I love the school I work at. I have only been in the teaching/center atmosphere for a little over a year now, so I feel like there is a lot for me to learn but I am so excited to learn and grow as a teacher!

Hi, my name is Allura. I am a teacher at KinderCare in the infant room! I am from New Jersey, I have worked with children before but never at a daycare so its kind of a different experience for me but i have been learning so much within the 10 months I've been with my team, and I'm excited and a little nervous to learn more, which is why I'm going for my CDA. i have two kids of my own, so its helpful to know a lot of resources, I have always wanted to be a big impact in children's lives so I'm reaching my goal to do so. My only question if any one can help out, I want to do activity's in my room, we range from 3months-12months. i have a few that are 9-12mo i have a few ideas for them but what are some activity's I can do with the younger ones? They are all on their own schedules so it can be a bit tricky, but i would love to hear some ideas because i really want to include education in this crazy schedule!

Hello Allure welcome and enjoy the journey. Learning development comes as they grow. Enjoy them where they are and do the small simple things and you will discover alot. Everything you have read and learned try with your children and the kids at school will should you something different each time. Throw the schedule out the window Be encouraged.

My name is Deb Sarno. I am from Phoenixville, PA and this will be my 1st year teaching Preschool.
I have my CDA in Infant/Toddler development and have decided to take advantage of this perk that Kindercare offers, of paying for your CDA courses, and earn my CDA in Preschool/Pre-K now.
An issue I struggle with, are coming up with new ideas to keep that one student, who constantly gets off his mat at naptime.
Thought it was just an age thing, but now that I am in the Preschool and Pre 5 classrooms, I see that it might be more than just age.
    Any tips?

Welcome Danielle Anderson and Deborah Sarno! I am so glad that both of you have joined the CLASS Learning Community!

Cathy, I love your advice about Deborah's question! I would also say that it might help the student to put his mat in a different location in the classroom, or near a sound machine or another source of white noise. I know even I have a hard time relaxing when I know there is so much else I could be doing. Does anyone else have any advice for Deborah's student?

If you have a teacher whom wants to take over the classroom, how do I tell her that she should share the classroom with others (me) ? If we are being observed, the person whom is observing us will see that we are not compatible working together.
