As an observer, teacher, or coach, the indicator clarity of learning objectives, within the Instructional Learning Formats dimension, can be a bit confusing. We often get questions about this indicator as well as some of the behavioral markers or examples that it could look like.

Download this new resource, Clarity of Learning Objectives, to get ideas of ways to consistently focus the children's attention on the purpose of the lesson.

Love sharing the purpose of the lesson with my students! I remember as a child in school wondering why we were doing certain activities. Giving students the "why" does help them focus on the objective. I like the way this resource gives examples. Thank you for sharing.

I love this.  Thanks to Teachstone for creating it.  It would be great to have these quick snip-its for other indicators as well.  I also liked the one created for Self and Parallel talk.  They are quick and easy for the teachers to learn more.

    Hello,
Is it possible to create a resource like this for Infant/Toddlers? This would be extremely helpful!

    Thank you!!

We use the words "I know", "I wonder......."," I learned".  You can add pictures by their quotes.
    I hope that helps.

@Gillian Ramkalawon and @Crystal Horton, I'm so glad you found this helpful!  I will pass on that having similar resources for other indicators as well as including infant and toddler dimensions and indicators, would be something highly desired. I know we're always working on sharing more resources.

Hi @Paulette Maggiacomo, Clarity of Learning Objectives is an indicator specifically within the Instructional Learning Formats dimension in the PreK CLASS tool. I'm guessing you're wondering if there's a similar resource for each dimension, which, unfortunately, there isn't.  However, it seems like a lot of community members like this format, so I'll pass along that similar resources for other indicators and dimensions would be helpful. In the meantime, if you haven't looked at some of the other printable resources here, (https://community.teachstone.com/resources/resources-by-domain), I'd recommend it!

Ah, good question @Rosemary Castaneda!  KWL stands for "Know-Want to Know- Learned".  The idea is that before you introduce a new topic or theme, you ask the children what they already know about it and what they'd like to know. That way you can make sure you're building on what they know and bringing in what they are already excited to learn about.  At the end, you record in the Learned collumn, all the things they learned.

Here's some more info about it: http://www.nea.org/tools/k-w-l-know-want-to-know-learned.html
