    Hi Community! 👋

We would love to hear from you so we have compiled five icebreaker questions designed to help our members here in the CLC introduce themselves! This is a great way to build connections with other educators before the new school year begins!
Reply to the thread and answer the following questions:
    1. What inspired you to join our CLC community, and what are you most excited to learn or share here
    2. If you could have dinner with any educator or influential person in the field of early childhood education, who would it be and why?

    3. Share a memorable experience or success story from your work in early childhood education that has impacted you.

    4. What is a unique hobby or interest you have outside of your professional life that others might find surprising?

    5. What is one piece of advice or a favorite quote that you often share with others in your field?

Can't wait to get to know you all!

    1) I have been an high school teacher for 12 years and got a job as a STEM teacher at a preschool. I just want to learn more about early childhood so I can teach my students better.

    2) Hmmm...good question. I don't know.

3)I just really like how excited they get each time they come to class. We could be doing the same activity as the day before and they are always cheering and smiling.

4)I make Doorable pens and keychains as a side hustle.

5)The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Hi everyone, my name is Jenéda! What brought me to join the CLC community is the fact that I've gone through a lot with my family; I had a pretty toxic upbringing. I wanted to turn that negative into a positive and make it a career. Originally I wanted to be a guidance counselor turned professional counselor, but now that I've been given this opportunity I'm interested in becoming a family or children's counselor. If I could have dinner with an influential ECE professional it'd be Ms. Monica from YouTube. She's a black woman with a Master's in Early Childhood and Special Education that has 20 years of experience in this field. I want to sit down with her because of how much dedication, passion and energy she has for the field. She's uploaded songs, circle times, mini segments and even 40 minute ones. Her channel is inspiring.

Something that impacts me every day is how much affection my kids need or want from me. It's fact that there're multiple teachers around and they choose me! I love knowing that I give them the comfort they need. I love that they know they don't have to sit in their feelings, and that they have someone to listen to and comfort them.

A unique interest I have is in stuffed animals lol. I love love loveee them!

Stay hydrated and nourished! The more malnourished you are the more angry and irritable you'll be.

I look forward to learning with you all!

Hi everyone, my name is Eldora Jones. I got excited when I thought this would be a chance for me to gain fresh knowledge and gain more experience with the new CDA community. I love the word community. When I hear that word, I think family. Which is how I think of the Back-to-Basics Daycare. I have been the Director there for 30 years. My love for children has keep me there. My reason for going into education is divine. I am driven to learn more . I have 3 adult children of my own, they are all into education. As a community we all love children.

    1. Furthering my education with children is what inspired me to join the community! I'm most excited to learn how to teach those children who are on the spectrum and how to become a reacher they won't forget.
    2. I don't have anyone specific, there's too many to choose from. But i would love to meet someone with 10 years+ of experience. Just so I can learn how to become the best teacher possible. I would ask what tools and/or resources helped them become the teacher they are today.
    3. I have two children myself, my son was out sick for a few days and so was I. When I came back, you would've thought I left for years. My preschool class was so excited to see their Miss Rachel.
    4. I really love to write in my journal and hope one day to publish my own book. I also really enjoy doing hair and my makeup. I started cosmetology school right out of high school. I dropped out once I had my daughter, but I know I'll make my way back eventually.
    5. Just keep swimming from Finding Nemo. It has always been one of my favorite quotes. To me, it means no matter what life throws at you, don't give up. Keep swimming!

    Hi!!

My name is Kylee and I've been at KCLC for about 4 ish years!!

I finally decided to start the CDA course since I am already the lead of T1, but I would love to be certified. I am most excited to learn about more ways to educate my challenging children in my room.

My dinner choices with an educator would probably be my freshman social studies teacher. He was extremely caring, a wonderful listener and I could always go to him if I needed anything. He was easily my favorite teacher out of my entire high school time, even if I didn't do great it his class lol.

Some of my many favorite experiences in childhood education would be when the families reach out for a babysitter!! I love getting more time with my kiddos and getting to know my families on a deeper level.

My absolute favorite hobby is reading! I love dark romance books, especially if they are written by Luna Mason or H.D Carlton. A few other hobbies of mine include crocheting, baking sourdough bread and binging my comfort shows.

I always tell our new hires that we will have bad days and it is OKAY. Between the kids, parents, coworkers and us, we are allowed to have rough days. <3

Welcome, @kylee grindle! I also loved babysitting some of the kids I had in my class. To this day, I see them out (because they are all adults now), and we talk about how much fun they had when I watched them outside of the classroom, and they had more 1:1 time!  I love reading as well and always love hearing new authors, so thank you for listing those!

I joined the CLC community because of its focus on quality education for young children. I'm excited to learn new strategies and techniques. If I could have dinner with an influential person in early childhood education, I'd choose Maria Montessori. One memorable experience in my work was when a non-verbal toddler started using PECT cards to communicate. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling and crafting (current phase is the cricut). One piece of advice I often share is "Play is the highest form of research."

    1. The incentives were college credits, hours towards director's credentials and to further my education to better prepare me as my career advances.
    2. I'm not sure. Maybe this course will introduce some candidates to us?

    3. I have shadowed several children and having the opportunity to really do , one-on-one is fantastic. You get to see all of there eureka moments .
    4. I'm a professional powerlifter, painter and I have waaaay too many plants and pets.
    5. Keep the children busy or they will busy their selves. Children will find something "interesting" to do.

Hello! I'm Abigail, I work in an aferschool care program/summer camp out of a k-8 charter school.

    1. I originally took my job on impulse, but have come to realize that childcare and education are intense passions of mine.
    2. I'm going to have to do a bit more research before I can answer that properly.
    3. Being able to have a wall of gifts from students in my bedroom (various drawings of characters or easter egg patterns, mostly) has given me such a visceral reminder of both my and my students impacts on each other and the world around us- coming home to it every day feels like its own win.
    4. I work weekends at a local renaissance festival seasonally.
    5. With small children, their frontal lobe is undeveloped. So, when you have to remind them a hundred times of the same fact, its because you're filling in for a vital part of their brain that hasn't quite developed yet.

    1. I have been an assistant teacher for a few months now and I love watching my kids grow and all that they can accomplish, I would love to lead them to their future
    2. honestly I don't know any but I would love to learn about some influential people!
    3. honestly everyday there's something new, from watching my kids express themselves through creativity , to being able to express their feelings more and more each day. Honestly watching one of my babies go a day without accidents on the potty while I was potty training them is one of my current memorable moments.
    4. it's not surprising to most but I have many tattoos and piercings and most people think I'm a "tough" woman but I enjoy collecting mini brands, and everything eeyore. I also love to cook!
    5. "If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours." Dolly Parton. You never know what a child is going through, always offer a hug and wait for them to let go first, smile to them until they smile back, try to make each day for them as great as you can

Imm in the clc DC community because I have just recently changed careers and am now working in a childcare center. Ok have never done this before and am very excited to learn as much as I can so I can be a better teacher.

I would like to have dinner with my director. She is moving on to another facility, but I am so thankful she had the confidence in me to give me this chance.

My most memorable experience was the first time one of students said they loved me and was glad I was here.

I am an avid motorcycle rider. We are always doing charity rides for children, veterans, and people who have disabilities or illnesses.

Talk to your students the way you would like to be spoken to.

I have been in the field of early childhood education for 27 years. I have five children, my second child was born with special needs and I came to realize how early intervention can change lives and decided I wanted to be a part of that. I love continuing education in order to ensure I am able to provide the most quality experiences to the children and their families. So much has changed in the past thirty years in early childhood education and it is exciting to be a part of that. I have had so many memorable experiences over the years, teaching preschool is so rewarding (most days).  I guess the most recent is when a parent approached me asking if I recognized them, then explained I was her sister's preschool teacher 26 years ago. That was the moment I genuinely realized how much impact early childhood workers have on not only the children we work with, but also with their families. One quote that comes to mind is "changing the world is a team sport".  I want my staff and families to know they are supported, teamwork is a must in this field!

Hello CLC Community! My name is Kara Bolden, I'm a child care provider in the Mississippi Delta. I was inspired and persuaded by the Division of Early Childhood Care and Development that CLASS would be beneficial to our success in providing quality care to our community here in the Delta. I am excited to learn all that would make us better! We have  experienced better through the most memorable and recent success of five (5) staff receiving their CDA!!  Outside of my professional life when I am not engaged in my grandma- to-do list, I love fishing. I love all it involves from the  catching, cleaning, cooking and eating . One of my favorite quotes is "Be who He has chosen You to be", and do what you have been called to do then quitting won't be an option "

    1. This is my 30th year in Early Childhood Education. I am most excited to learn additional and valuable information regarding being a CLASS observer.
    2. Well would love to have dinner with Howard Gardner-I find his theoretical approach to multiple intelligences fascinating.
    3. I would have to say that for  me the most memorable experiences is learning from my personal mentors in the ECE field.
    4. I love fishing and anything outdoors related.
    5. What you focus on is what you get. Meaning if a teacher focuses more on a calm behavioral classroom or if you focus more on kindness in the classroom then that is what you will see more of. Plus I really like "Faith it til you Make it" oh and QTIP-Quit Taking It Personal.

    Hi @Angela Caldarera

Thank you so much for sharing. 30 years in the field is incredible! I will definitely be Googling Howard Gardner and researching that! I love the QTIP analogy!

    Best,

    Rachel

    1. I have been an early childhood educator for over 25 years.
    2. Lev Vygotsky because of his belief that language develops from social interactions for communication purposes. Vygotsky viewed language was a child's greatest tool for communicating with the outside world.
    3. I have great memories from working with early learners. I love looking over data and seeing how much the whole child has developed and grown in various domains.
    4. I am a Zumba instructor. I love to dance.
    5. Every day you should try to learn 1 new thing.
