    Hi there!
I have a question, if there is a brand new teacher in a classroom how long should we wait to do a CLASS observation in their particular classroom? Is there a certain timeframe we need to wait?

    Hi Tracie,
I am not sure if there is a hard rule, but I would think you would want to give your new teacher a week or so to acclimate to the classroom, but then start your observations.  You would expect to see growth over time, but unless she has the immediate feedback, how will she know what she needs to be mindful of and work on?  Good luck to you.  CLASS is the best tool!

    Hi @Tracie Laloata,

Thank you so much for reaching out! I checked in with my colleagues to see if we had any recommendations to share and found out that we do not have a requirement for the tool, but we do have guidance to share.
"A teacher who has been with the students for fewer than 30 days should not be observed, as it is important for the teacher and students to settle in, get to know one another, and establish new routines."

We share this guidance to help ensure the day is more "typical". While interactions can be measured at any time in the classroom, it is helpful to have some time to establish routines and get to know one another.  I also found out that the Office of Head Start requires at least 10 consecutive working days, so you could observe on or after the 11th day. I really hope this helps!

    Best,
    Allison
