Hello!
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day and break, I know I did. I had started on Thanksgiving theme or crafts the week before Thanksgiving. To get my kids ready for the holiday. We made Pumkin Pie Slice and colored a slice of pie for them to take home and they made turkey too, also corn. I did ask my kids what they were Thankful for? I did let the parents know that we made these things that I had put on the wall in different part of the classroom. The parents were so excited to see what their kids were learning and what they are doing. Talking about the holidays and have the kids make things for the holidays they love it.

Hello Community!
With the Thanksgiving holiday right around the corner, I thought I would share how the CLASS framework can support the Thanksgiving holiday by emphasizing meaningful interactions, fostering a positive classroom culture, and encouraging family engagement. Here are a few key areas where CLASS can align with the holiday:
1. Emotional Support
- Positive Climate: Use Thanksgiving themes to create a warm, inclusive atmosphere. Share gratitude activities, like a classroom gratitude tree, where children and adults express what they are thankful for.
- Teacher Sensitivity: Recognize that holidays can be a time of mixed emotions for children. Offer support and validate their feelings, especially if the holiday isn't celebrated in their home or brings challenges.
- Regard for Student Perspectives: Encourage children to share their own Thanksgiving traditions or cultural celebrations. This helps create a sense of belonging and respect for diversity.
2. Instructional Support
- Concept Development: Facilitate discussions about the meaning of gratitude and the history of Thanksgiving. Encourage higher-order thinking by asking children how they show thankfulness in their daily lives.
- Language Modeling: Use the holiday as an opportunity to expand vocabulary with words like "thankful," "harvest," and "tradition." Engage in rich conversations during storytime or themed activities.
- Quality of Feedback: Reinforce children's efforts to share ideas or complete tasks by providing specific, encouraging feedback. For example, "I love how you shared your story about helping your family cook-it shows teamwork!"
3. Family Engagement
- Host a family potluck or virtual gratitude-sharing session to strengthen partnerships with caregivers.
- Share pictures or notes highlighting how children participate in Thanksgiving-themed activities to keep families connected to classroom happenings.
- Provide resources for parents to foster gratitude at home, such as simple daily rituals to express thankfulness.
The CLASS tool emphasizes the importance of creating meaningful interactions that promote learning and emotional growth. By embedding its principles into Thanksgiving activities, educators can create an inclusive, engaging, and enriching experience for all.
We would love to hear some ways that you are using CLASS and the holiday season in your classroom or at home! Share in the discussion thread and we hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Best,
Rachel
