Concept development is observable during any interaction, even lunch. I observe externally and often see concept development practices throughout the observation. It is the quality, frequency, and depth that provide meaningful interactions and opportunities for learning not the "planned lesson". Don't ...

We, the community, have been suggesting this for years. We talk about the importance of "learning from errors", yet don't practice what we preach! While I was fortunate to pass each of my recertifications (over 13 years), I still wanted to know if I was just a bit "high or low" or completely off. ...

I agree. I think it would be such a teachable experience to see/hear what is missing and could make the practice stronger. Thnks for bringing this topic up. ------------------------------ ChristineKing AndoverMA ------------------------------

Thank you so much. I've been trying to find out information for a bit and while everyone I talk to knows about CLASS ENVIRONMENT, no one seemed to know how to access. I appreciate your time. Best, chris King ------------------------------ ChristineKing AndoverMA ----------------------- ...

Rebecca, I, too, remember when we received the scores and it was so helpful to go back and see where we overscored/underscored even if it was only 1 dimension. Every bit of feedback helps us improve. I know I would look at the recertification process as more of a learning experience if this practice ...

Hi, My question is whether with the new CLASS 2, the infant/toddler certification will remain as 2 distinct reliabilities or will it be combined into 1. I think I remember when it first came into practice it was one. I'm looking to attend a training and want to know before I register. Thanks for your ...

I find that sometimes the observer, me, coming and going is very disruptive to the classroom. There is usually a quiet corner where I can go to code undisturbed. I try to have my presence as least distracting to children and teachers as possible. Hope this helps. Chris King

Gillian, This is a great resource. As an independent assessor, I am often asked to identify strengths in my written report and always try to use the same language that CLASS uses in the assessment (proximity, responsiveness, facilitates, analysis). The other part of my report is "opportunities" and ...

I've used it for a few years and find it easy to use (although there is a learning curve)...like anything CLASS, Center sites/ Systems seem to have choices in how written information is requested,(all are easy to use) but the actual observation process seems to be universal. Happy to answer any ...

Joanna, I have used a virtual observation for CLASS tool (TORSH) for a few years now. There are different ways to use it, but an example: this particular grant, teachers submitted to me videos of their classrooms during time periods ( ranging from 20 min videos to full morning videos) and using the CLASS ...

While "intentionality" is always a goal of CLASS, I agree that this year it is more important than ever, especially in areas of relationships/responses. As an independent assessor for CLASS, my presence in classrooms is really a challenge, unless schools use the on-line TORSCH video version. I am ...
